On this date in 2009, T. I. was forced to boot a fellow Atlanta rapper off of his Grand Hustle Records roster because it was revealed that the up-and-coming artist was an informant for the DEA.

The online tabloid The Smoking Gun first broke the story when legal documents were uncovered that showed that Alfamega was an informant for the Drug Enforcement Agency during the trial of a heroin trafficker.

T.I., who himself went to jail because of one of his bodyguards working with authorities in his publicized 2007 gun-buying tasting, in which the Grand Hustle CEO had to serve a year and a day behind bars. Needless to say, T.I. was more than livid when this information about his newest artist was discovered.

Rashee Rice’s offseason is turning disastrous. According to WFAA-Dallas, Rice is under investigation for assault of a photographer in Dallas. Rice allegedly hit the man at Lit Kitchen.

Just last month, Rice turned himself into police for his role in a six-car crash in Dallas after racing his Lamborghini over 100 mph. He is facing a lawsuit of $1 million in that case. Rice is also facing six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving severe bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault.

Rice was booked into DeSoto Jail for that crash with a $40,000 bond.

His attorney, state Sen. Royce West, issued a statement that said, “Mr. Rashee Rice turned himself in today and was released on bond. I want to re-emphasis Mr. Rice’s continued cooperation with law enforcement. Mr. Rice acknowledges his actions and feels deeply for those injured as a result of this accident. Our legal team is now tasked with reviewing all legal documents.”

Today would’ve been Chris Lighty’s 56th birthday, but he was raised in a very structured Jehovah’s Witness household, so he never celebrated birthdays or holidays. Chris became the most influential hip-hop manager through his management and marketing imprint, Violator. Violator was the real Empire before the Lee Daniels hit series. The impressive roster included Missy Elliot, P. Diddy, 5O Cent, Foxy Brown, Busta Rhymes, A Tribe Called Quest, Mariah Carey, Mobb Deep, and more.

To the outside world, Chris Lighty was an alluring, powerful executive who negotiated unprecedented deals with his partner, Mona Scott-Young. Outside of his insane work ethic, he had layers about him that made him a remarkable human being, friend, mentor, and support system to many people.

Through Violator management, Chris and Mona became the cerebrum of hip hop, developing and sustaining careers while structuring lucrative marketing and branding deals that helped grow hip hop into a viable entity and cement its place in popular culture.

“Hip Hop was everything to Chris,” says Mona.

Sadly, those dreams were cut short when Chris Lighty was found shot to death in an apartment in NYC on August 30, 2012, from an apparent suicide. He will continue to be missed by the Hip Hop community.

Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans recently sat down for an interview where he candidly discussed his personal life, including his decision to remain unmarried. The 51-year-old comedian revealed that his choice was influenced by his deep love for his mother, Elvira Altheia, whom he feared would feel jealous of any woman in his life.

In an interview with The New York Times, Wayans shared, “I never got married because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman. I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman.” His mother’s passing in 2020 at the age of 81 profoundly affected him, leaving him shattered and emotionally devastated. Earlier today (May 7), Drake’s OVO store in London was vandalized in the midst of his beef with Kendrick Lamar. K. Dot’s “They Not Like Us” lyrics were tagged on the front of the store.

The trendy outlet on London’s Carnaby Street was decorated with the words from Kendrick’s latest diss track, which dropped last week. According to reports, no one has been arrested for the crime, and there are no suspects at this time.

Aside from the graffiti incident in London, a shooting occurred earlier today outside of Drake’s Toronto mansion, injuring a security guard on the perimeter of the estate. The guard suffered a gunshot wound to his upper chest. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery soon after being found unconscious. The unidentified shooter is believed to have fled the scene of the crime in a vehicle.

Drake was not injured in the shooting, which is speculated to have been drive-by.
